The petrol/diesel is obviously the type of fuel that is used. The number after the "V" is the number of cylinders. The "V" denotes the type of engine - specifically the way that the cylinders are oriented in the engine block. Can someone explain it to me? Thanks.|||The litre size is the engine displacement (the amount of air and fuel that can fit in the cylinders). I don't understand the difference between these engines. I was looking on wikipedia about the new Jaguar XJ models (X351), and it says there are three different types of engines: the 3.0 litre V6 Diesel, 5.0 litre V8 Petrol, and the 5.0 litre V8 Petrol supercharged. I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I don't know anything about cars.
